We woke up early the next morning to take in the scenery as we cruised through the Tracy Arm Fjord. The sky was crystal clear as we cruised through, and the captain was able to take us further into the passage than usual. Also, because the weather was so beautiful, he opened up the heli-pad at the front of the boat.
You can only slightly see the blood on this chunk of ice, but lots of the ice chunks were covered in blood – a tell tale sign that a baby seal had recently been born! Apparently the mother seals give birth on these chunks of ice. Right afterwards the mother pushes out the placenta – and then its a feeding frenzy for all the seals! Yum!
