England Part II

Finally! I’m finally getting around to finishing our England trip! After getting back I got a cold/flu that had me really sick for couple of days – but has continued to drag on through this week. So I just haven’t had the energy to get to blogging. But – enough complaining! Back to the task at hand…

On Friday we woke up really early from jet lag. Both of us tried to sleep it off, but we were ready for the day! So we had a cuppa and some figs, (and did some sit-ups and push-ups to pass the time…) before heading down to the hotel breakfast. We then caught a train from London to Oxenholme Station which is just outside Kendal. We started walking down a hill into the town. Unfortunately for us the bed and breakfast was UP the hill! We stopped to ask a guy to point us in the right direction, and he was nice enough to give us a ride back up the hill. We are forever grateful 🙂

Excited because we didn’t know we were heading in the wrong direction!

Excited because there are sheep!

Once we got settled, we met up with my family and some family friends for dinner at the Punch Bowl (Erin was sad to learn that despite being called the Punch Bowl – they do not have a rum punch). But, they do have amazing British classics. My dad, for example, has bunny and banger pie. Yup, baby rabbit. I had Cumberland sausage.

On our way to dinner!

Cumberland Sausage (Yes, I am aware of what it resembles)

The next morning we got up early and walked into town and up to Kendal Castle (castle of Catherine Parr – thereby making Erin a rightful heir)

But, first, we stopped by my Great Gran’s house. When I was younger, the lawn was grass, and dotted with garden gnomes 🙂

Heading up to see her castle for the first time! As Erin will tell you – it’s a fixer upper.

And yet still breathtaking…

enjoying her castle!

We headed back in to town and walked around with my family a bit before heading back up to the B&B.

Hey sweetness….just reading this now! Looking at the castle and Gran’s house and you as an adult standing near these things has brought back memories and tears…good ones. You were 4 years old in a picture I have, standing in Gran’s lawn, near …? what was the knome’s name in Gran’s yard?
