England: The Finale!

We spent our last three days in London. Although we both prefer the rolling hills and peace of the north – this was Erin’s first trip to England, so seeing the sites of London was a must!

Get ready for a marathon post, and a photo dump!!

Tuesday we got in from the north in the early afternoon. After getting settled in at the hotel, we headed out to see the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge. As we were walking across the tower bridge an alarm starting to beep – it took us a minute to realize that the bridge was about to draw!

Up, up, up!

After being on the go for over a week, we needed a day of taking it easy. So, Wednesday we slept in a bit before heading off to the changing of the guard. In the afternoon we met Andrew, Rico, and my grandma for a drink at the Museum Tavern before checking out the British Museum.

We stumbled upon Scotland Yard, and Erin was able to trade patches with the police department there!

After a nap we went to Harrods. That place is out of control! We checked out the wine cellar to see what selection of California wines they offered – mostly Napa but a few Russian River varietals were also available. Fun fact – Qatar now owns Harrods, which had been continuously British owned for more than 100 years. Kind of crazy. The only real evidence of this ownership change over is a section of Harrods called Cultural Essence of Qatar.

That evening we ate at a delicious Turkish place and reminisced about our trip to Turkey the previous summer, and how lucky and thankful we are to have been to so many amazing places around the world!

On Thursday we headed to Greenwich for the National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory. This was the highlight of London for me! I had so much fun learning about the development and history of time keeping, and Greenwich is calmer than central London, but just as beautiful and interesting.

But, first stop, the Cutty Sark!

In her element…

Friday morning we boarded a plane home. I’ll admit – I was NOT ready to go home…and somewhere between London and our Dallas layover, I got sick 🙁 Our homecoming thus consisted of sleeping, TheraFlu, and this…
