4.5 days of solid driving and we have arrived in DC. We are still holed up at a Super 8 – but so far so good. I’ve been working from the hotel, and Erin heads to her first day Monday morning. We are also doing other exciting things like making trips to DMV and organizing the return of our moving truck. But, there will be plenty of time to bore you with those types of exciting details later…. For now we can focus on our amazing drive cross country.
Friday: California
We took off Friday afternoon and made it nearly to the Arizona border Friday night. Saturday we were up early and on our way again.
Saturday: California – Arizona – New Mexico
Highlights of today included snow flurries in Flagstaff, and a quick stop at the Painted Desert.
Saturday night, about 100 miles out of Albuquerque it began to snow heavily. Suddenly, seeminlgy out of no where, the road froze and we were going 15 mph for nearly two hours! The traffic was horrible and we passed a number of accident ranging in severity from spin outs to flipped semis. We were very relieved when we made it to Grants, New Mexico, a small town 80 west of Albuquerque.
Sunday: New Mexico – Texas – Oklahoma
We slept in a little on Sunday to let the sun heat up the roads and melt the ice. When we hit the road, the sun was shining and the roads were dry. We enjoyed the snow dusted desert before crossin the border into Texas.
We made it to Oklahoma City before calling it a day.
Monday: Oklahoma – Arkansas – Tennessee
Driving through the Ozarks was a highlight of the trip for both of us. Beautiful rolling hills of fall color.
Tuesday: Tenessee – Virgina – Maryland 🙂
And there you have it! A fast, but wonderful drive from coast to coast. And now to begin this next part of our life.
Step 1: Get into the house!
